Pastor - JOHN D. Carl

John came to Heights in early 2025, stepping into the shoes of faithful men who've gone before him.  While originally from Virginia, he got to Texas as fast as he could, moving to the Lone Star state in 1980.  He has served in churches around the north/central Texas area for decades, most recently in Garland, where he served as Senior Pastor for 17 years.  He married his wife, Tracy, in 1992 and the couple have two amazing children, Christopher and Melody, as well as their first grandson, which is what brought them southward to Temple.  John received his bachelor's degree in Biblical Studies from Hardin-Simmons University in 1992, his M.Div. from Southwestern Seminary in 1995, and pursued a Ph.D. in Hebrew Bible at Baylor University for almost three years before obtaining his D.Min. Degree in Pastoral Leadership from Southwestern Seminary in 2010.

Minister of music - Tim Kemp

Tim came to Heights as our Music Minister in February of 2018. He is a native of Central Texas and has been serving in music ministry forover 40 years. He loves to see people joining together and raising their voices in praise to God. Tim is married to Donna and has two sons: Dane and Brandon. All four members of the family are graduates of the University of Mary Hardin Baylor. Tim also graduated from  Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Music Degree in 1993.

office manager - Kenzi Flannery

Kenzi joined the HBC staff in March of 2026. Kenzi graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in December of 2025 with her Bachelor of Business Administartion in Entrepreneurship and Small Business degree. She is married to Sean Flanneryand they are passionate about working for the Lord. She prays that her role at Heights will encourage all who enter the doors of the church.  Kenzi has a heart for those who are hurting and missions. She enjoys reading, being in nature, crafting, running, and spending time with her friends and family.

Minister of Students - Lauren Koehne

Lauren joined the HBC staff as our Minister of Students in August of 2025. She graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in May 2025 with her Bachelor of Arts in Christian Studies degree. She is currently in graduate school at Liberty University, studying Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She is engaged and will be getting married in August of 2026. She is excited to see how the Lord uses them both to serve His Kingdom. Lauren loves witnessing God’s hand in other people’s lives, as well as testifying to what God has done in her own life. She enjoys art, cooking, being outdoors, and spending time with her family.
